Law for the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (Addition of Sections to the Penal Law), 1950 1. **Definition** "Genocide" - actions done with the intention of destroying, in part or in full, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, such as: - killing group members; - Causing serious physical or mental harm to members of the group; - Deliberate coercion of living conditions aimed at bringing about the physical destruction of the group, in whole or in part; - Implementation of a policy aimed at preventing births within the group; - Forced transfer of children from one group to another. 2. **Punishment** Those who act to destroy a group as defined in section 1, or those who assist, plan, or attempt to commit genocide, will be prosecuted and punished with life imprisonment or any other punishment determined by the court. 3. **Jurisdiction** An Israeli court will have jurisdiction to prosecute and convict any person who has committed genocide, whether the crime was committed in Israel or outside of it, as long as the accused is in Israel's territory. 4. **Extradition** The State of Israel can request extradition or hand over a person accused of the crime of genocide, but if the extradition is not carried out or if Israel decides so, Israel reserves the right to try this person in an Israeli court. 5. **Validity** The law enters into force on the day of publication in full.
